  Understanding Gerunds Today, I learned an interesting lesson in my English class about gerunds. A gerund is the -ing form of a verb that functions as a noun in a sentence. Examples of gerunds : Talking  ,  Cooking  ,  Walking  ,  Painting  ,  Eating Ways to use gerunds in sentences Gerunds as Subjects : - Reading is my favorite hobby. - Not eating at restaurants saves money. - Walking in the park is good exercise.
